Sustainability at Wickeder Group
For the Wickeder Group, sustainability is not a trend, but part of our industrial self-image. We know that, as an international manufacturer and finisher of semi-finished metal products, we bear responsibility – for energy, raw materials, and people. That is why we consider efficiency, environmental protection, and social responsibility in every production step. Our facilities, processes, and materials are designed to combine performance with resource conservation—for products that impress today and endure tomorrow.
With the 1920 patent for cladding iron strip with aluminium, a journey began that still defines the Wickeder Group today: continually rethinking steel as a material – as the basis for technical innovations worldwide.
Energy and resources
Efficiency is part of our DNA—and in everything we do. Whether rolling, stamping, or coating: our processes are designed to use energy and raw materials optimally.
State-of-the-art systems, heat recovery solutions, and digital controls ensure that every production step is precisely coordinated and consistently achieves maximum performance with minimal consumption. Wherever possible, we rely on renewable energy and return materials to closed-loop cycles. In this way, we combine technical excellence with responsibility and create metal solutions that are convincing both economically and ecologically.
To further reduce CO₂ emissions, almost all lighting has been converted to energy-saving LEDs, and energy-efficient transformers and motors have been installed. The passenger car fleet consists exclusively of hybrid and electric vehicles. In addition, the digitalisation of processes noticeably reduces resource consumption.
Materials and processes
Sustainability is also a matter of materials expertise.
That is why we develop and refine metals that are durable, recyclable, and energy-efficient in use. Whether composite materials, precision strip, or etched microstructures – our solutions are designed for maximum performance with minimal resource input.
Using state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies, short transport routes within the Group, and targeted process optimisation, we create products that combine technical precision with sustainable value creation.
Switching to 100% recycled copper without changing the copper specification is easily possible for us. Another project currently in the processing phase is the use of aluminium-copper cladding scrap to produce aluminium bronzes in foundries.
Responsibility and people
Sustainable action means taking responsibility – for the people who work with us and for the regions in which we produce. More than 1,000 employees worldwide are part of the Wickeder Group. We support them through training and further education, safe working conditions, and long-term prospects.
As an international corporate group, we are also committed locally in the regions where we operate. We support social projects, promote young talent, and maintain respectful relationships with our partners and suppliers.
Our suppliers are also assessed according to sustainability criteria. Our Sustainability Code of Conduct covers the areas of environment, human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. The assessment is carried out via the EcoVadis sustainability rating, a comprehensive analysis of sustainability performance in global supply chains.

Whether in research, development, or production, our teams continuously work on new materials and processes that save energy, avoid CO₂ emissions, and use raw materials more efficiently.
