What is CNC?

CNC stands for Computerized Numerical Control and refers to machines that are controlled by computers. Examples of CNC machines include:

  • Lathes
  • Plasma cutters
  • Electrical discharge machines (EDM)
  • Waterjet cutters
  • Wire bending machines
  • 3D printers

What is Chemical Etching?

Chemical etching uses photolithography to create a “stencil” on the metal surface. Chemical processes then remove metal from areas not protected by the photolithography mask.

How to choose between CNC and chemical etching?

CNC requires additional tools that are not necessary for chemical etching. CNC is more cost-intensive and typically produces smaller quantities. Chemical etching is more cost-effective and the most efficient method for producing large quantities of components.
